About
We believe good gear should earn its place. Not more stuff. Not endless shopping. Just useful, well-made things that make daily life run a little better. Built around Sleep, Eat and Move, our edits focus on practical, thoughtful products that solve problems, last well and get used often.
Who we are
Get in Gear is written by Fergus Scholes, a journalist and father of three and edited by Georgia Scholes.
Fergus has spent more than 10 years covering gear and adventure for national newspapers and magazines, including the Financial Times’ HTSI. Get in Gear is a more personal project, built around three simple pillars - Sleep, Eat and Move, with gift guides and seasonal edits woven through.
How we choose what to feature
Everything on Get in Gear is selected with one question in mind: does this earn its place?
That doesn’t mean the cheapest thing, or the most expensive. It means products that are well-made, practical, durable, pleasing to use and genuinely useful.
Some recommendations come from hands-on testing; others from research, expert advice, long-term use or products I’ve bought myself. Where something is personally tested, I’ll say so. Where it is included because it looks promising, I’ll be clear about that too.
Get in Gear may use affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you buy through them. It never costs you more, and it does not decide what gets featured. The aim is simple: fewer bad buys, more good ones.
